Creating a Social type action

Social media is key to multiplying the reach of your message. My Action Center allows you to create actions that are marked as complete when users perform a task in Facebook or Twitter.

*Keep in mind your NationBuilder site must have a Broadcaster associated with a Twitter or Facebook account.

Ask users to like a page on Facebook

Go to the following website: https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-button

Go to the Like Button Configurator. Switch the Layout, Action Type, and Button Size as intended. We recommend you use a large Button Size.

In the URL to Like field, enter your Facebook page title.

Press Get code. Copy the text under Step 3 and keep it in a separate text file.

Go back to your NationBuilder Dashboard. Create a new subpage under a week page. Give it a unique Name. Keep in mind no two actions can be called the same. This name will be visible to users as the main title of the action.

Choose the Basic page type. Press Create Page.

Add the Content of the prompt you would like users to see when they open the action.

In the Excerpt field, paste the code you obtained through Facebook.

Press Save Content.

If you’d like to add a featured image to your story, go to the Files tab and upload an image file. There can only be one image file uploaded per action.

In the Headline field, you can add a header title. This will be visible when users open the action.

In the Tags field, add one or more interests. This will determine whether it appears the user’s dashboard, according to the interests the user selected when he or she signed up. These tags should have the exact same name as your site’s Interests. To make the action show to all users, tag the action as Everyone.

After the interests, add Social to the tags.

In the Status menu, choose published. Save the page.

Copy the Name of your Social action.

Go to the People tab of your NationBuilder backend.

Press the Filter button.

Add has interacted with Facebook page as a criteria.

Press Save Filter As… and give your filter a name.

Refresh your browser (press cmd+R or F5).

Open the Saved Filters dropdown list next to the Filter button. Look for the newly created filter. Press the edit button that has a pencil icon.

Under People in this filter should have this tag (it will be removed from people that do not meet the criteria), fill in the Name of the Social type action you created.

Press Save filter.
